Collections Management Policy

The Paris-Henry County Heritage Center shall collect, preserve, and interpret items specifically relating to the history, development, and culture of Henry County, Tennessee. The Heritage Centerís collections shall be held in trust for the public. Every reasonable attempt shall be made to keep significant material accessible and to maintain the highest ethical standards in the interpretation of its collections. Items in the Heritage Centerís collections shall be used for exhibits, research, study, teaching, publications, and loans. 

(a). In support of the stated purpose for collections, the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center shall maintain and abide by the comprehensive collections policies and procedures set forth in this document. 

(b). Priority shall be given to the care and management of collections. 

(c). Collections shall not be capitalized or treated as financial assets. 

(d). Collections shall not be deaccessioned or disposed of in order to provide financial support for institutional operations, facilities maintenance, or any reason other than the criteria set forth in SECTION IV of this document. 

(e). Collections shall be acquired, cared for, and interpreted with sensitivity to their cultural origin.

Upon request, the curator shall make available to visitors a current listing of all artifacts registered by the Heritage Center. The collections shall be made available, on a supervised basis, to regular visitors, writers, photographers, historians, and others who might make use of the Heritage Centerís resources. Only designated personnel shall have access to the storage areas.
